Historical ATP moments
The long history of the ATP tournament in Umag has been marked by fantastic and dramatic matches where the best international tennis players lost to much less experienced players. Many of today’s big players won their first titles here over the years on the red clay in Umag.
Carlos Moya, Umag´s crowd favorite, has won the tournament five times while Croatian players have only celebrated twice, Marin Čilić 2012 and Goran Prpić 1990. The winners have come from all four corners of the world: Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Sweden, Spain, Italy , Italy, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Russia.
ATP Tennis Award of Excellence – A story of true love
Umag is known as a city for sports and recreation, and tennis is written into this story in big letters. It is the love for tennis that has been going on for decades, one of those that gave Umag the title European Town of Sport 2018. The tournament is a fantastic campaign for Istria and Croatia with matches that reach the audience in as many as 100 countries worldwide.
